This fascinating listed house dates from 1580, but modern finishes such as rendering applied in 1930s had caused severe damage and rotting to timbers and the wattle and daub.

The builder recovered the original timbers by pairing back to sound wood then splicing new oak to the originals by pegging.

While stripping off the old render, the builders found the old priest hole and an original 424-year-old window.

The builders also built a sympathetic small extension to the rear of the property and lime washed the exterior.
