Ideal home inspired by the past

Exterior shot of the house.

A once in a lifetime opportunity to design and build their ideal home has been realised by this Lancashire family, who chose a local builder to realise their dream.

Co-incidentally, their builder's great-grandfather built the original barn that was demolished to make way for the new house!

The new house incorporates re-claimed materials from the original building, particularly local stone and timber beams. Internally the style is a personal statement, for example a monk's gallery overlooking the lounge area is used as a 'mini gym', while arched stained glass windows built into an internal wall, produce a delightful effect. For a grand entrance, the hall and landing are built from solid oak, while the homely kitchen features a natural clay floor that has been waxed and polished.

Using reclaimed materials requires particular skill to ensure an excellent fit, which is clearly in evidence throughout this project.
